Project Introduction

Intello Labs creates scalable and cost-effective mobile apps or APIs for food retailers, food processors and trading companies. Using the company's cloud-based AI algorithm, users can use a single image to generate a quality report based on size, color, shape, health and defects within a few seconds to minutes. Food traders can use the solution to grade raw materials and monitor the quality of food throughout the supply chain, while food retailers use the solutions to ensure that product remains safe, healthy and fresh.

Innovation: Intello Labs' solutions are mobile, cost-effective, scalable and applicable to various points in the food supply chain. Quality assessments leverage AI, including computer vision and deep learning, as well as multispectral spectroscopy to create quick and objective reports.

Economic and Social Impact

Economic Impact: When implemented across locations and commodities, Intello Labs estimates that the solutions contribute about 1.5% to the customer’s bottom line. At a given procurement center, Intello Labs’ solution helped reduce food loss by 10%, while implementation at the store level improved quality indexes by an average of 5 basis points. Stores can also save about 33% of dumped stock by using the solution to power keep/dump solutions on unsold inventory.

Social Impact: The solution enables real-time quality monitoring throughout the supply chain, empowering decisions that minimize food loss. Moreover, increased data transparency on quality and pricing metrics help to increase the incomes of local farmers. For example, Intello Labs projects that a cardamom auction house will see farmer incomes increase by approximately 30% from using the solution.

We want to understand Walmart China’s supply chain for the fresh category. It will be helpful to know how the company controls quality of fresh commodities at various points – procurement/vendor, warehouses, distribution centers, retail stores, e-commerce fulfilment centers, etc.
