    Project Introduction
    PURESPACE is developing a system to decompose ethylene to maintain food quality and decompose mold or bacteria, such as E. coli, to maintain food safety. In doing so, PURESPACE helps to extend the product shelf life. The device can be used in any part of the cold chain and has the possible capability to adopt real time assessment, acting as both a tool to improve food safety and a system to monitor temperature, humidity and ethylene levels.
     
    Innovation: PURESPACE’s approach does not use chemical coatings, does not have high ozone emissions and can decompose ethylene, mold and bacteria in real conditions. Through this, end consumers will be able to eat a naturally fresh product without a wax or chemical coating. These conditions allow customers to see and taste the difference without health risks associated with higher ozone levels.
     
    Economic and Social Impact
    Social Impact: PURESPACE's technology will help reduce post-harvest lost and improve food safety. These benefits will directly improve consumers' quality of life thanks to reduced prevalence of foodborne diseases and higher quality food. Moreover, the reduction in food waste will also help to lower production costs. 
     
    Help Wanted from Mentors
    We would like to have a chance to know where would be the most valuable application to use out technology. Especially for a large company like Walmart. From producer, distributor, cooperating companies, vendors, and local distributing center and retail shops, there will be great benefit from applying the technology. 
     
    If mentor could be able to tell us what the actual process of this whole fresh fruits and vegetables supply chain act, what is the actual need from this supply chain, what would be the best fit of this technology, and what would be the best shape of PURESPACE FRESH device so that we can meet the need of users needs. 
     
    Also, since our technology removes ethylene and mold, bacteria, the type of fresh fruits and vegetables that can benefit from removing ethylene differs. We have done research but would be nice to discuss about what is the actual problem in the field either during distribution or storage. Sharing information of the type of bacteria that Walmart would like to prevent to improve food safety would be also great. 
     
    In sum, we would like to be advised from mentor about the actual need from the field along the cold supply chain in terms of extending shelf-life, improving food quality and food safety. If possible, being able to actually see the part of the facility would be also wonderful to make the device suitable for the test for control vs using purespace device trial.
